Lunar Rover
The lunar rover is my (un)trusty adventure partner. No wise man would buy the notoriously unreliable Land Rover Discovery II. Alas, the heart knows what it wants - and this is my car.
After one short day trip in my friend’s Disco, I knew I was in love and had to get my own. Reading about the model’s terrible reliability issues, I carefully examined 10+ different vehicles for sale before finally selecting the one that was in the best shape. Notably, it also had the highest mileage out of any of them that I checked out. Environment and maintenance seem to have a bigger knob on car condition than mileage. My brother noted the lunar rover vibes due to an astronaut figurine phone holder I had and gifted me the LUNARVR license plate. Another friend saw in that plate the name Luna, and so it stuck: Luna the lunar rover. Since then, I’ve been desperately scouring local junkyards for organ donors to keep Luna alive while taking her on countless memorable overlanding adventures through Southern California. It is true what they say about these Land Rovers - but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
